"An Album with new, intimate arrangements for voice and harp of Latin American Songs ... An abundance of variety in rhythm, melody and narrative forms comes together on this album of Mexican tenor Rolando Villazón accompanied by French star harpist Xavier de Maistre. Serenata Latina is in a way a collage of sounds, where these different shapes of the Latin American canciones come to life in their sensually emotional essence: Deep longing, somber facets of pain, melancholy, desire and loss dominate the very intimate color palette of this so beautifully heartfelt recording, however accompanied by vigorous life affirming and dance like pieces".

"Idén att kombinera harpa och tenor väcktes av harpisten Xavier de Maistre ... Det blev starten för ett projekt som resulterat i skivan Serenata Latina tillsammans med Rolando Villazón. Här möter sångaren sina rötter när han tar sig an Latinamerikas sångskat. Rösten har länge svajat, men i den här repertoaren är han bekväm. Och de Maistres spel är i en klass för sig. Lyssna på Tico Tico no Fubá".

"I find the tenor most compelling when he's at his most gentle and emotionally direct ... Villazón is in good voice throughout most of the programme, although I notice a certain hollowness in his tone at the lower end of his register ... Xavier de Maistre, who arranged all of the songs, is a wonderfully sensitive partner, and dazzles in the solo pieces peppered throughout the programme ... All in all, then, a tantalising taste of little-known repertory that richly repays further exploration".
