"A collection of artists and their inspirations, their voices, their songs on show under one musical roof, and the sound they bring together is astonishing, it magnifies the experience, it holds an essential truth, not only for being Jewish, but for all, that if you come together and sing rather than wage war with a mind of conquest, then there would be more understanding in the world ... A dramatic album, a sense of reaching out, a notice of intent delivered with a sound of compassion and joy, The Rough Guide To Jewish Music is superb place to seek understanding".

"As expected, there are a few klezmer tracks from some of the most inventive artists around: Mames Babegenush, Don Kipper, Mazzeltov, etc. Also present, though, are the Sephardic group Aman Aman, exploring more Eastern Mediterranean sounds; Turkey-based Yinon Muallem who works with tonalities from slightly further East and the utterly unique German-Israeli Jewdyssee who blend Yiddish song with electro beats. The compilation is, however, still a little klezmer-heavy and omits examples from key Jewish communities such as Yemen, Bukhara or the Beta Israel ... Despite this, the tracks here do represent an eclectic and enjoyable spread and serve as a good jumping-off point for anyone interested in delving further into Jewish music".
