"Fagiolini-ensemblet forstår at holde deres sti ren. Denne gang med en genoplivning af en række 400 år gamle, rekonstruerede solnedgangsbønner, som både samler og løfter indtrykket af vokalmusikken, der blev til, da renæssance blev til barok. Hollingworth og Oxford-ensemblet er tætte som få og deres vokale svirren tilmed udstyret med overdådig guldlyd. Summen er mesterlig".

"As we might expect from this group, the best performances come in those pieces requiring spacious grandeur and a generalised awesome sound - the works by Viadana particularly benefit here, as Gabrieli's famous In ecclesiis ... But whenever the vocal ensemble sings without instrumental support (as in Palestrina's Quae est ista), problems of tuning and ensemble arise".

"We are invited to imagine ourselves sitting in some glorious North Italian church in 1612 ... There's no lack of sumptuousness when it comes to the choice of music ... Terrific to have so much fine new music by Viadana and Giovanni Gabrieli, but on balance this new offering doesn't match the atmospheric recording and gusto of Paul McCreesh's 'A new Venetian Coronation' ... A welcome return of the 'liturgical recreation' and a wonderfully uplifting and educational experience all round".
