"The Menzingers join the "post-30 punk" club, alongside Beach Slang and Japandroids. The first chorus asks "Where we gonna go now that our 20s are over?" and the LP proceeds from there".

"In broad strokes, this is an album about what happens when life becomes less fun and more real. It's about the people and places that make us who we are, the things that make us unique and the things that bring us together. It's about the things that make us happy despite everything else, the things that fade and the things that last forever. Hearing it now, After the Party is delightfully bittersweet. Years on, when time has continued to pass and age has continued to set in, it'll be devastating".

"Despite its rather misleading title After the Party is an upbeat and surefooted album. It is a stark reflection on getting older but maintains a youthful, sometimes mischievous spirit. The band still see the romance in the places and the people they have left behind but have no intention of letting that define their future. The band sound at ease, like the weight, has been lifted from their shoulders with little evidence of any cathartic rage being exercised. What is left is a superlative set of authentic punk songs that stand as their finest achievement to date".

"Standouts like "Thick as Thieves," "Lookers," "Bad Catholics," and the stoutly sung anthem "The Bars" show the Menzingers in fine form at a career point when many begin to go stale or diverge into different directions altogether. Sure, they're not breaking the mold, but with After the Party, they manage to toe the line between subtlety and vigor, aging into their next phase with another solid release".
