"Spanning a few different stylistic eras, Anthology: 1972-1984 compiles 19 of the satin-smooth vocalist/producer's best moments ... For Hutson newcomers, this set is guaranteed to make your life a whole lot groovier".

"Sadly, the demise of Curtom in the early 80s led to a downturn in fortunes for Hutson and an obscurity from which he's never fully recovered. Still with us, and occasionally touring, he remains a cult figure - beloved of DJs, jazz-funk dancefloors, and soul connoisseurs but little known beyond. It's a minor travesty given the quality and depth of his back catalogue, as this well-programmed compilation ably demonstrates".

"While Curtis Mayfield spent the '70s providing soul music with its conscience, Leroy Hutson, his protégé and Impressions heir, was soundtracking affairs of the heart for Mayfield's Curtom label. Sharing the musical and lyrical moods of Leon Ware-era Marvin Gaye, his solo songs are testimony to the power of love and desire; his silky, soft vocals wrapped in velvetine productions".
