"It is difficult to sum up a career as long and varied as that of John Parish, and to its credit, Bird Dog Dante doesn't really try to find a single narrative line. Instead it hops around from elliptical soundscapes to bright pop songs to surfy psychedelia to brashly incisive rock, just as its progenitor does, and it's an engaging if discontinuous ride ... None of these pieces have much to do with one another, but they all fit somehow into Parish's life and work. Here's to artists who follow whatever interests them and don't look back too much to see if we are keeping up".

"John Parish begyndte som producer i 1986, og foruden P.J. Harvey har han gennem årene leveret berømmede produktioner af blandt andre Eels, Sparklehorse, Tracy Chapman, Rokia Traoré, Giant Sand og de senere år Aldous Harding og danske Kira Skov. At Parish også er musiker og sangskriver, er mest noget, der kommer hans 'klienter' til gode, men han laver også soloplader, og for første gang i mange år har han nu lavet en, der ikke kun er instrumental, men en fifty-fifty-blanding af sange og lydspor. Den mest slående sang på hans 6. soloudspil er en duet med P.J. Harvey ... Sangene er faktisk rigtig gode og ubesværet markant iscenesat. John Parish har ikke verdens største stemme, men belagt med kunstigt elektrostøv og med keyboardspilleren Martha Collica og bassisten Giorgia Poli til at synge kor, bliver 'The March' en af en håndfuld fine sange på albummet med den snurrige titel 'Bird Dog Dante' ... De instrumentale numre er overvejende lydspor til film, hvor der måske kun erblevetbrugt ganske få sekunder af musikken. Nu kan man få lov at høre mere, men det føles kun i glimt som mere end vignetter".
