"Ibrahim Ferrer, the "official" lead vocalist of Buena Vista Social Club, and producer Ry Cooder take numerous chances and many labyrinthine journeys (guaranteed to piss off all of the purists) on their third collaboration for the World Circuit/Nonesuch label, yet manage to come up with the most beautiful fruit of their collaborative efforts to date ... In sum, this album reveals what is truly possible when musicians of other cultures get together to serve the music, not individual talents. And though Ferrer proves himself yet again to be one of the world's greatest treasures as a singer, he is always loyal to Cuba, ever the slave of the rhythm, ever the angel of the song itself".

"A remixed reissue of Ibrahim Ferrer's Buenos Hermanos brings one of Cuba's most iconic voices back into the spotlight ... Whether or not his specific sound ever represented Cuba in any realistic way, Ferrer's venerability and vitality at the time of World Circuit's Cuban releases established him as perhaps the embodiment of Cuban big-band jazz for outsiders. His legacy is an important one in the history of Latin American musical flows. More subjectively, his voice is a beautiful one to behold and always has been. Buenos Hermanos' return - coming, along with other reissues, in celebration of BMG's acquisition of World Circuit - brings a timelessly brilliant performer back into the spotlight".

"This reissued, remixed version of the album ups the ante with four additional tunes, the strongest being Cristina Saladrigas' "Ojos Malvados."".

"Expanded reissue of Cuban crooner's classic: Featuring a crack band of brothers including mega-pianist Chucho Valdés, bassist Cachaito López and Manuel Galbán on surf-style electric guitar, along with Tex-Mex accordionist Flaco Jiménez and textural jazz trumpeter Jon Hassell, the album's 17 tracks are a smorgasbord of classic songs and the romantic boleros that were always Ferrer's forte. Tunes such as the feelgood 'Boliviana' and gospel-flavoured 'Perfume Gardenias' come refreshed with so-called '2020 mixes'; of the new tracks, the brass-fuelled 'Ven Conmigo, Guajira' is a standout. But it is Ferrer's vocals - light, strong, sensuous, occasionally improvised - that really make this a winner".

"The musicianship is exquisite throughout, the crack group inspiring Ferrer to incredible performances with an energy and charm that belie his age, and now it's sounding better than ever".
