Analysis of towns and gardens around the Sound, based on old town maps and contemporary sources, disproving earlier notions of town gardens being rare and scarce in Northern Europe prior to the 16th c. With Braun and Hogenberg's Civitatis Orbis Terrarum and the cartographical research for it by Mark Jordan during the 1580s as a point of departure, attention is drawn to copies by Peder Hansen Resen for his Atlas Danicus, 1677, and Johannes Meijer's map of Elsinore, 1658 - Danish text.
