"Yannick Nézet-Séguin's conducting is buoyant and forward-moving, but with romantic touches ... Miah Persson and Angela Brower can sometimes sound shrill in their solos, while the men are unequally balanced between Adam Plachetka's excellent Guglielmo and Rolando Villazón's vibrant, Verdian Ferrando. But the miracles of this opera are the ensembles, and these work brilliantly, underpinned by the crisp playing of the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, culminating in a second-act finale whose pathos, force and passion are truly sensational".
