"2009's Opa Hey! album introduced us to Gruev's strange blend of folk tradition and electronic innovation. Now he has tapped into Bulgakov, as well as '60s and '70s rock stylings, for an even more mysterious product. The Rain Dogs are obviously inspired by Tom Waits, though they also cite Dr John in their self-proclaimed attempt to create a "Balkan voodoo". And this ambition has clearly worked, not only in the form of an odd and superb new album, but also in becoming, already, one of Bulgaria's most popular live bands. The brassiness of the first album is replaced here by more intricate but equally psychedelic stylings from clarinet and accordeon. But the otherworldly voices remain, and the alien atmospheres continue to beguile, mixed into life through confident and assured multi-layered programming and production".
