"Editor's choices - September 2019: Falla's two ballets swagger, stomp and sizzle in these vivid, sun-scorched accounts from the Spanish conductor and the Mahler Chamber Orchestra - the rasping horns and almost jazzy cor anglais at the opening of the Miller's Dance are a delight, and after enjoying Carmen Romeu's clean soprano in El sombrero de tres picos the earthy roughness of flamenco diva Marina Heredia Rios in El Amor Brujo offers a delicious gear-change".

"Editor's choice: What's really unmistakable here is the enthusiasm with which Heras-Casado conducts [El Sombrero], and the sheer exhilaration of the response he elicits from the Mahler Chamber Orchestra. He gives us a high-voltage interpretation, rich in detail, and strong on dramatic and narrative momentum. Rhythms are wonderfully precise, textures very sensuous throughout, the latter helped immeasurably by the vivid, immediate recording ... Heras-Casado gives us another outstanding performance that ranks among the best".

"Bavouzet, a finger-perfect French pianist ... is cooler, clearer and brighter ... more unequivocally romantic night in Falla's Spanish gardens and the score's impressionism is not neglected. Those looking for a highly, polished and traditional reading will probably prefer Bavouzet ... Mena's lightweight reading of the complete ballet is certainly adequate ... What's lacking, though, is cumulative excitement".

"Vurdering: Gramophone choice" - "Greatly to the credit of Juanjo Mena and his forces that such a potent atmosphere is achieved. Falla's beloved folk elements are given with a concentrated musicianship where energy and refinement blend in ideal proportions".

"Vurdering: Recording of the month - Vurdering: BBC music choice" - "Spanish nights to remember ... It's especially gratifying that they [orchestra] and the piano are heard as equals. But then, the level of engagement with the music is exceptional. Often spacious and dark, the performance reaches past its starlit, balmy surfaces to find the ache and stoicism of Spanish history embodied in the places that Falla evokes".
