"It's become something of a lazy journalistic cliché to claim that someone who plays an unusual instrument with fire and dexterity is the "Hendrix of the..." (spoons, theremin, kazoo or whatever), so I'll refrain from describing London based plucker of the Ethiopian Krar harp Temesgen Zeleke in this way, no matter how tempting that might be. Zeleke is the force behind Ethio roots trio Krar Collective ... They make a rockin' big noise for such a small combo, one which has been captured well by producer Colin Bass on this debut. The krar's the star, but all three contribute, the intensity of the musicianship and call-and-response vocals counterpointed by the sway of the Ethiopian rhythms".
