"With the exception of impassioned closer What Am I Without You, there is nothing on Flying Dream 1 that leaps out at the listener; instead these songs represent subtle gradations of softly articulated warmth and empathy. After the Eclipse, with its gorgeous-sounding invitation to "come out into the sun", is lifted by Sarah Field's clarinet flourishes; Is It a Bird is a masterclass in minimalist restraint. But really this is an album that (once again) quietly demands to be heard, and enjoyed, as an inseparable whole".

"Pitched at the tempo of a cat taking a nap in the sun, Elbow's ninth album, 2021's Flying Dream 1, is the kind of enveloping recording that works best in one long, slow afternoon listen. The album was largely written remotely while the band was isolating during the COVID-19 pandemic and then recorded live at the empty Theatre Royal in Brighton with producer Craig Potter. The result is a gorgeously rendered production that has the feeling of an intimate concert, bringing the acclaimed group's moonlit chamber pop into vibrant clarity".

"Manchester-bandet Elbow, som med karrierens niende studiealbum 'Flying Dream 1' bekræfter, at det fortsat hører til blandt tidens mest interessante rockbands ... Det er frontmand Guy Garveys stærke, melankolske røst, der gør Elbow til noget specielt ... På 'Flying Dream 1' er Elbow tilbage med storladen rockmusik - båret af stærke sange, præsenteret med nyfunden spilleglæde".

"This is Elbow at their most reflective and restrained".
