"Simmonds is in fine singing voice, and as aggressive as this set is, he economizes his solos exceptionally, with maximum flash and minimum time. The only problem here is the same-old, same-old -- Simmonds' lyrics are positively embarrassing. But then, his and Savoy Brown's fans don't pay to hear songwriting. Goin to the Delta is a solid, straight-up set preferable even to the acclaimed Voodoo Moon".

"The playing is good, the tunes are nice enough, but it's a straight-ahead blues record without a lot of variety. Bandleader Kim Simmons sums it up when he says, "Maybe Shuffles, Boogies and Blues should have been the album's title; it's certainly what you'll be listening to for the next hour or so." Granted, all of the shuffles, blues, and boogies are solid and enjoyable, but if you're looking for something adventurous, this probably isn't the record for you".

"Darcy James Argue's latest album is a rich, multilayered masterpiece of large-forces composition. The 53-minute Brooklyn Babylon is a grand project that never falters over its seventeen tracks, employing a multitude of big band orchestral colours and compositional devices that draw upon many possible forerunners from the past century and a half while never sounding like retro pastiche. It's fun to play `spot the influence' with Argue's music, knowing that he will always transform semi-familiar rhythms, textures, chords and riffs into something entirely personal".
