"The bandleader's latest disc concerns itself thematically with the heights of love and the depths of longing ... Memorable guest verses from Childish Gambino and Ty Dolla $ign add some welcome seasoning, while the album's closing title track marries floating harmonies and funk: the perfect conclusion to an album full of celestial moments and bassy underpinnings".

"This album certainly is the culmination of all Thundercat's previous creative trajectories, as if everything has been leading to this point".

"Caught at his creative peak between "Everybody Loves The Sunshine" and "Africa", the restrictive LP format meant many of the songs gushing from the veteran singer-vibraphonist at that time remained in his vaults. In 2004/05, BBe corrailed two selections on two stellar sets; out of print for years, they've been repressed, and can't be recommended highly enough. Slinky session royalty grooves welding funk, soul and disco, atronomical vocal performances from Merry Clayton and Carla Vaughn, plus, of course, Ayers' superlative vibraphone imbue gems like "I Just Wanna Give It UP" and "Brand New Feeling" with an intoxicating allure that could never be mistaken for anyone else ... Pure gold".
