"Recording of the week: No chestnuts of any variety on the menu here, just a beautifully-plotted programme of Lieder and mélodies ... Karg's silvery soprano soars magically above the full-throated Chor des Bayerischen Rundfunks, and both she and Huber are as responsive as ever to texts and harmonic light and shade. This has to be my favourite classical Christmas album in some years".

There are no cheesy sleigh rides or jingle bells here but rather a recital programme of songs - genuine lieder and mélodies - on texts conveying the true meaning of Christmas ... Karg's angelic soprano - light and buttery - is perfect for this charming repertoire and she does it full justice in winning performances ... She covers a lot of languages and 17 different composers but somehow seems entirely at home in all of them".
