"An album which is graceful and mature and one which will simply add to the chronicle of Kate Rusby and English folk music".

"So well done Kate, for coming up with a fine new album that once again furthers her development as a songwriter firmly in the tradition. It avoids the snares of the predictable while springing a few surprises, sure to please existing as well as well as bring new fans to her music".

"While [Rusby]'s always surrounded herself with brilliant musicians, the current band of [producer Damien] O'Kane, Duncan Lyall [among others] offers greater range and richness than we might expect. This is no better illustrated than on the cover of Archie Fisher's "The Witch Of The Westmoreland", guitar and synth combining to create an effectively eerie setting, the atmospheric soundscapes of "The Mermaid" and "Night Lament" and the unexpectedly funky musical accoutrements populating the superb "I'll Be Wise" give this album a distinctive edge on most of its predecessors. There's a real confidence (...) in Kate's writing too ... The sensitive title track is clearly inspired by the migrant crisis and images of those desperately piling into boats at sea, while the romantic imagery of "Hunter Moon" is on a par with "Underneath The Stars" ... There's plenty of evidence to suggest this will prove one of her most enduring works".
