I starten af årtusindet var Eve hardcore-hip hop-selskabet Ruff Ryders førstedame. Hun udsendte tre succesfulde albums, hvorefter der blev tavst omkring Eve, men efter 11 år er Philadelphia-rapperen nu tilbage med en skive, der gæstes af blandt andre Pusha, Snoop Dogg og Missy Elliott. Rent musikalsk er vi milevidt fra Eves hardcore rødder, for nu sigtes der til hitlister og brede masser. Her er besnærende, rihannaske pon-di-replay-toner, autotunet r&b og rendyrkede pop-ballader. Og med produktioner fra Swizz Beats, Missy Elliott og Diplo kunne Eve ikke have ønsket sig mere. Som comeback og mainstream hip hop-album er "Lip lock" noget nær en perle.

"When producer Blac Elvis brings the ridiculous, pumping electro and special guest Missy Elliot brings the fire, Eve lights up like a roman candle and shoots out so many glorious put-downs ("Bank rolls be fatter than your back fat") that the vicious "Wanna Be" runs away with first prize. A couple more bitchy bits like this and the album could win over old fans with ease, but if Lip Lock isn't mean enough, well, neither is Eve. She's sweeter than before and musically more adventurous".

"Eve tries to sound current - Lip Lock is consistently dense with electronics that nod to today's pop-scape. No Neptunes and Dre here, but plenty of low frequency throbbing and high-pitched glitch noises. Eve doesn't reach for the dance floor often, but this is hip-hop that acknowledges EDM and dub-step".
