"Looking damnably dapper in a maroon shirt and plaid waistcoat, Muddy Waters takes the stage with a warm, "danke schön!" It's 1978, and Muddy and band are poised to perform for the audience of renowned German TV show, Rockpalast. Given the era, there's a risk that the ensuing set could be somewhat flabby; what Paul Hollywood might call "overworked." Fortunately, this is not the case, for the most part - though there are exceptions - and Muddy is undeniably captivating; the delicate tremors of his voice as rich and charismatic as ever ... Muddy was 65 in 1978, and his dependable mojo doesn't let him down".

"Overall a nicely presented box set which will allow the owner to see Muddy and the two bands on stage as well as being able to play the companion CDs while driving etc. Both concerts are well recorded, the earlier set perhaps having the best sound as a few feedback issues mar the later show. However, this will be a 'must have' for Muddy fans and would act as a great introduction to his music for anyone just starting out on their exploration of the blues".

"Waters rips through 13 of the strongest songs in his catalog backed by one of the finest blues bands ever assembled [...] who would all leave Waters' employ to form the Legendary Blues Band in 1980. It may be 40 years old, but great audio quality and first-rate camera work and editing capture a band that's clearly enjoying itself ... The Tribute Band concert, while not as riveting as the first DVD, has some great moments as well, although the show was hampered somewhat by recurring bouts of feedback".
