"Founded by Ann Savoy and Jane Vidrine in the twilight of the last millenium, The Magnolia Sisters have been a settled foursome since 2003 ... The one thing you can be sure of with this outfit is that an album is never going to sound samey - there's so much more variety than the usual Cajun dancehall fare, and the switching by Savoy and Vidrine between guitar, accordeon and fiddle ensures a constantly changing palette. "Love's Lies" gives us a good smattering of waltzes and two-steps, but there's plenty more. Country music is represented by a Frenchified George Jones honky-tonk tear-jerker and a string band arrangement of the much-covered "Cotton Fields", while elsewhere you'll find a calypso-flavoured Canray Fontenot number, a nod to the swing era, and some older French folk songs, often featuring very attractive vocal harmonies or lovely double-fiddle work from Burgess and Vidrine".
