"For a band primarily known for their rootsy acoustic ramblings prior to Magic Fire, they've flipped the formula straight on its head for their fifth consecutive release and their first in two solid years. Not only is their production value much more refined [...] but their sound, at an intrinsic level, has been expanded upon greatly with the introduction of the collaborative nature of the album ... Ultimately, it makes for a much different experience than their thoroughly celebrated Best Medicine [...] but one with as much quality as one would have deduced the band would strive for since their beginnings".

"One track in and I'm sold, sucked in by the high wailing vocal harmonies straight out of the mountains and overlaid on a bed of solid rock ... a mix of old and new which is as much Goose Creek Symphony as it is The Dillards and a whole string of rock and country-rock and what used to be called newgrass bands of the past few decades ... The Stray Birds have it down. They wash, rinse, repeat - all songs at the very least pleasant, the best among the best there are".

"This CD really hits the spot. The Stray Birds have augmented their sound, no doubt helped by the first-class production of ex-Dylan alumnus Larry Campbell, and turned out a proper country album. Original songs, great harmonies, really nothing not to like".
