"As the narrative unfolds, nothing arrives at the punch of promising earlier efforts such as 'Inflammable Heart' and its frenetic kick-in or the dark guile of 'King Complex'. Instead, the focus emerges on absolute endurance as the building blocks become heavier and more atmospheric. 'Oil Spill', 'Loveless Marriage' and 'Deadsea' are about as optimistic as their titles suggest and while all three achieve a certain salience, it can be a bit of a slog getting there".

"Maximum Entropy indeholder primært synthpop-numre opbygget efter klassisk formel, heriblandt albumåbneren "Claymation", der samtidig hører til blandt albummets absolutte højdepunkter. Det på én gang dramatiske, storladne og inderlige nummer fungerer fint med kombinationen af tunge beats og Ryan James' luftige og distancerede vokal ... Man Without Country har valgt at slutte det ellers vellykkede Maximum Entropy af med en hyldest til det britiske new wave-band The Beloved i form af et cover af "Sweet Harmony", der egentlig ikke tilfører nummeret meget nyt".
