"Die seit 25 Jahren bestehende Weser-Renaissance unter der Leitung von Manfred Cordes ist bekannt für stilsichere und mustergültige Interpretationen der Musik des 16. Jahrhunderts. Gross ist die Varianz der Besetzungen der oft bis zu 12-stimmigen Werke, die Stimmen mit Instrumenten verschmelzen und aufs Beste verzahnen ... Vorbildlich gerade und instrumental geführt sind die Stimmen, so dass zusammen mit den Instrumenten plane Klangflächen entstehen, die sich in der Stiftskirche Bassum schön entfalten können ... Die Orgelstücke von Andrea Gabrieli gestaltet Edoardo Bellotti sehr lebendig, sorgfältig und prägnant, transparent und frisch phrasiert und präsentiert sie geradezu liebevoll".

Andrea Gabrieli ist sehr viel mehr als nur der Onkel von Giovanni: Ein bedeutender schöpferischer Musiker an einem neuralgischen Ort der Musikgeschichte in hochinteressanter Zeit. Manfred Cordes und Weser-Renaissance Bremen setzen mit dieser Platte ein echtes Ausrufezeichen".

"Whenever Andrea Gabrieli is thought of, it is in the context of the fact that he was the great Giovanni Gabrieli's uncle, yet, as this new disc demonstrates, he was strongly influential ... He has a style and a form of expression which is all his own ... more reserved, solid and restrained than Giovanni's and that may be why he is less often performed ... Under the redoubtable Manfred Cordes, Weser-Renaissance and the CPO label have allowed no stone to be unturned in these performances, employing sixteen musicians - that is, seven singers and nine instrumentalists playing, for example, trombones, chitarrone and something called a zink which is a small cornett ... There is some very fine singing heard here and some wonderfully warm and nimble instrumental work. There are also four organ pieces".

"The motets and the mass are performed with one voice per part, without any instrumental support. That is, as Marco Gemmani explained, the most likely option. It is probably not the only option ... It didn't spoil my enjoyment of these performances which are quite colourful and very expressive ... This disc is of major importance as it sheds light on deserving music which is not well known".
