"There are obvious comparisons with Çiğdem Aslan, the London-based Turkish Kurd who was one of the discoveries of last year, but Bayir has a different approach. Here, she reworks traditional music from the western borders of Asia and the Mediterranean coast, starting with an Albanian love song before moving to Armenian, Balkan, and Kurdish songs ... An elegant and often gently exquisite set".

"Bayir is from a Turkish-Kurdish background, has trained as an opera singer and performs Anatolian folk tunes. Don't let the opera background put you off ... She sings in a high register (but sounds neither twee nor shrill) over some beautiful arrangements, with fine playing from an ensemble that combines Turkish musicians with stalwarts of the UK roots scene ... They can handle the fast dance tunes with aplomb, but it's on the slower pieces, including the simmering, yearning ten-minute epic Melamet Hirkasi that Bayir's voice really gets the space to shine. And shine it most certainly does".
