"The cover of Jaakko Eino Kalevi's fifth album Out of Touch is a stylised encapsulation of rest and recuperation: the Finnish singer-songwriter-multi-instrumentalist stretches his long limbs over a patch of sand, hands thrown above head in choreographed imitation of relaxation. The accompanying ten tracks sustain this mood, taking stylistic cues from easy-listening, yacht-rock and jazz. The album aims for an arch, plastic rendering of carefree cool".

"This record is a far cry from a mocking treatise on performativity; it's strongly felt, unceasingly surprising and just a whole lot of fun. White Denim slip casually and confidently between tones and genres: "Sky Beaming" gives a skewed jazz energy, while "Magazin" amps up a big, brassy rock sound to stirring effect. When all the world's a stage, Performance makes a pretty great soundtrack for the show".

"While Kalevi can often transport the listener though, there are also a few moments where the illusion is shattered. Ballad of a Cloud in particular doesn't float along as easily as its title suggests, instead occasionally descending into a rather obnoxious synth line. It might be hard to resist returning to the always-connected world afterwards, but much of Out of Touch offers a momentary sense of escapism".
