Republic of shame : how Ireland punished 'fallen women' and their children (engelsk)

Beskrivelse

This book sheds light on the legacy of Ireland's repressive system concerning 'fallen women'. The author describes how the catholic church and the Irish state operated, by punishing and exploiting women - e.g. women who became pregnant out of wedlock - in institutions, such as laundries and mother-and-baby homes. Women were condemned to servitude or forced to renounce their child.
