"Recommended: I can't remember ever having heard an entire recording of Hildegard's chants, performed by one singer, without the participation of any instrument. The disc under review may well be the first of its kind ... Considering the established performing traditions, this disc is a very important contribution to the ongoing debate on how to perform Hildegard's music. Here we have the chance to hear the music as it was written ... I am very impressed by the way Grace Davidson performs these chants ... The magic of this music is perfectly communicated, probably even more than with instruments ... This is one of the best discs of medieval music I have heard in quite some time, and it goes straight to my list of recordings of the year".
