"Cruelly overlooked in its own day, 1974's "Space Rangers" is a hoot from beginning to end. Some of its tracks could have been penned by Ziggy Stardust himself. Not Bowie, Stardust. Other moments are like Sly & The Family Stone covering Monster Magnet, or a (more) camp Hawkwind at the lunar disco. There's even a mad space-rock version of "Eight Miles High". The songs are tight, the feel is funky and the guitar effects are thoroughly cosmic. The following year's "Kryptonite" is arguably even more fabulous. At the very least it's definitely heavier. Sadly we can't award anything six stars out of five".
