"I imagine Matmos glancing around their laundry room and deciding that any space could hold a dancefloor, or a DIY noise show-a basement is a basement, after all. Caressing obsolete technology, they've parodied labor's drudgeries as play. Ultimate Care II is a daydream of domesticity, a chore ignored. Call it the revolutions of everyday life".

"As the piece spans tribal, abstract, and reflective moments, Matmos' playful approach balances the length of Ultimate Care II, an album whose title could double as the duo's mission statement. Equally meticulous and mischievous, this is some of Matmos' most engaging work, especially for fans who are as fascinated by their process as their results".

"At moments here, Schmidt and Daniel - assisted by Dan Deacon and members of Needle Gun, Horse Lords, and Half Japanese - appear committed to an ambitious, hallucinatory form of audio pointillism. Each new siege has receded before the audience is able to process it; this makes for a slippery listen even on an album with a conceptual through-line this stolid. As a result, Ultimate Care II is reliably dream-like, the sort of album you never quite hear in the same way twice; passages jut out or fly under the radar".
