"It's this kind of work ethic that makes 60s girl-pop so endlessly appealing - risks are taken; weird ideas are welcomed and pursued. You need to wail about being left broken-hearted? Go for it. Want to threaten girls of the consequences should they hit on your man? Sure thing. Got the urge to record a tune sung entirely in teen slang? Why the hell not? And this in turn makes expert in all things girl group Sheila Burgel's Honeybeat compilation a total joy to listen to. It's an ode to the uninhibited experimentation that created so many varied gems by female artists, and 19 of the finest and rarest among them have been collected here. It proves a true pop pick'n'mix ...".

"Sheila Burgel (a disc jockey, writer, historian, and host of the Cha Cha Charming website) compiled this collection of rare pop, rock, and R&B sides from the '60s that offers a welcome look into some of the lesser-known corners of female-fronted pop music. Recorded between 1961 and 1968, these 19 songs are largely the work of vocalists who didn't have long or memorable careers ... even the weakest tracks on Honeybeat have their charm, and most of this disc is a winning tribute to girl group-style pop as well as a great era of record making".
