"The vocal's on the title track, an amusing spoken-word (mostly) interlude that doesn't quite meld with the rest of the record. The predominant feel elsewhere is soul mixed with funk, with a distinctly African flavour. Aero Mathata appears to be soul-house blended with DJ Mujava's 2008 hit Township Funk, with a raw, weathered tone that's repeated on Shaun Escoffery's John Legend-esque guest spot on So Many People and a couple of Maverick Sabre collaborations (You Give Me Love and Home, written by Mumford and Sons) that have real grit about them".

"A spin-off project from the actor's recent role as Nelson Mandela in Long Walk To Freedom, Idris Elba Presents mi Mandela offers an intriguing cross-cultural collaboration between British and South African musicians that helps to shrink further the ever-diminishing space separating cultures".
