"For alle de medvirkende sangere ... er det tydeligvis et kærlighedsarbejde, de her er involveret i ... Man bør høre Poulencs sange. Det er rene franske delikatesser fra en komponist, der blev født og døde i januars triste lys, men som i den grad var med til at indføre klarhed og skarphed i fransk musik efter Debussy. Heldigvis om kap med sanselighed og et strejf af blød sentimentalitet".

"Thomas Allen's delivery of [La bestiare] is suave and secure. In both cycles, Julian Bliss's clarinet playing stands out for silkiness of tone ... Catherine Wyn-Rogers finds a steely sensuality in Poulenc's sexiest song 'Hôtel' ... The playing is strong, especially from Martineau and the Badke Quartet".

"Alongside Malcolm Martineau's searching piano, the singers find a consistent character: considered, spacious, unaffected byt cumulatively intense, to the extent that you may need to pause and catch your breath every so often".

"Malcolm Martineau is the binding presence as he responds to both songs and singers with a transparent understanding of character. More soon, please".

"Ann Murray contributes the album's cameo appearance with a lovely spacious revisit to Le grenouillère, while Malcolm Martineau's apparently limitless wisdom about the musicians, the music, and indeed the piano continues at full stretch".

"The programme has been thoughtfully chosen here to provide ... contrasts between the perky Poulenc and the one who could cosset himself in his luxuriantly purple harmonies. The range of voices and the different vocal timbres have likewise been shrewdly deployed".

"The Signum Poulenc series continues on its impressive way with the fourth volume ... theis is a really interesting release, including as it does a number of rarely heard works, all of them in stylish and persuasive performances".

"[In this volume] the musical horizons broaden out to take in various cycles that call for the accompaniment of variegated instrumental ensembles ... The instrumental ensembles, thoroughly in tune with Poulenc's personality, add piquancy to a delightful disc".

"With eight outstanding singers and the pianist all on top form, this is the most attractively inviting of these Poulenc anthologies so far issued. Excellent documentation too".

"Volume 3 contains some seldom-performed material alongside better-known songs, and in terms of the performances it's perhaps the most successful so far ... The contribution throughout this disc from martineau is outstanding".
