"So all is good here, but I couldn't help but wonder how wise it was to issue it as a DVD? The Dresden connection is interesting but, Kaufmann apart, there isn't much to the visual element that makes it necessary to see what you hear".

"Aside from his musical achievement [Kaufmann] has both natural presence and the ability to put over the content of the narrations in gripping but unhistrionic fashion ... The music-making is absolutely world-class. Orchestra, conductor and singer do not disappoint, especially the Dresden strings which, on this day, were on some kind of seraphic high of their own".
