"The Transit Rider, was based on a performance art show that involved smashing shellac records with mallets). Born of the Sun is somewhat more conventional, with McCarthy and Nils Frykdahl summoning up the spirits of very early Incredible String Band and even earlier Fairport Convention. The result, while a tad scrambled, is very often tremulously lovely".

"While previous efforts have seen the pair riff on A Midsummer Night's Dream and a play about trains, Born of the Sun is less thematically ambitious. Focusing on family and nature, it attempts to capture the joie de vivre of living a back-to-basics wild life, but mainly just sounds like a really crusty version of smug lifestyle bible Goop".

"[Dawn] McCarthy har tidligere samarbejdet med Bonnie 'Prince' Billy på to albummer, og i Faun Fables indrullerer hun typisk - også her - Nils Frykdahl som fast multiinstrumentalist samt en række ad hoc-musikere. Frykdahl fungerer også som en strålende andenstemme, der dog intet kan stille op mod McCarthys stolt knejsende røst. Born Of The Sun er det første album fra Faun Fables i over fem år. Det er lejlighedsvis brillant, manende spirituel folkemusik hjemsøgt af euforiserende længsel. Undervejs kæntrer det i lidt for pastichepræget arkaisk folkesang, sømandsviser og sågar en brutaliseret Tom Waitsparafrase. Men inden da er man allerede blev forført langt ind i skovens dybe, mørke uro".
