"While musically, the overall feel is familiarly bucolic, there are hints that Jansch's state of mind was a little more troubled. This is especially evident on the wounded, vocally coarse Why Me? (Still Love Her Now That She's Gone) and the brusque Get Out My Life, "Gonna drink sitting on my own, gonna drink and drive you fuckers away."Another side of Bert Jansch then, and a welcome reminder of the raw talent that the man had on tap, even when operating under the radar".

"From the Outside has never featured much in Jansch's work, given that its original 1985 appearance was on a tiny Belgian label ... It's hard to call this classic Bert Jansch, but then again, it's not bad either - how can it be, it's Bert Jansch?".

"Vurdering: Adequate" - ""From the Outside" was an atmospheric 1985 set which saw an energised Jansch reverting to uncomplicated guitar/banjo/vox settings. This latest remastered reissue (...) usefully includes the pair of tracks omitted from the initial limited-edition LP incarnation".
