"There is an excitement and freshness sown into this album. Sonically the album is engaging and intriguing, but that's only the first layer. The lyrics are poetry, each word there on purpose, just like each note and beat. This album is not for the faint of heart. If you are looking for 2 minute songs perfect for shuffling into other mixes, this may not be for you. These songs, while great on their own, are meant to be played with one another. Gunnera is a sign that the album isn't dead. There are sonic threads that tie this album together and only cement the idea that each song is a movement, connected yet independent of one another".

"Vurdering: C+" - "The trio's album lacks the off-kilter pop hooks and transcendent crescendos you might expect considering each member's main work. Instead, they've offered a collection of slow-building, meditative avant-garde rock. No single track emerges as a defining hit, but the collection is deeply layered and satisfyingly complex, shifting in unexpected ways ... Pfarmers are billed as an "indie rock supergroup," but really, the project is an opportunity for some under-acclaimed musicians to shine. Gunnera isn't a grand statement. It just lets some familiar names expand their expression, free from the shadow of their parent bands".
