"Editor's choice - October 2022: From the good-natured but broken-hearted sparring of Rodolfo and Marcello in the opening duet from La Bohème (where these two mature voices sound rather more hard-bitten than many of their rivals on disc) to a properly chilling account of the great confrontation from Otello, this recital is a superb testament to one of today's most electrifying operatic partnerships - with Pappano's Santa Cecilia orchestra providing a wealth of subtle detail and bags of dramatic impetus. Unmissable stuff".

"Recommended: Insieme - Italian for 'Together' - is Kaufmann and Tézier's first album together. It is a collection of nine duets from six operas by just three composers - Ponchielli, Verdi and Puccini - spanning forty years ... Kaufmann and Tézier may not be Italian-born, but there is no shortage of hot-blooded Latin passion in their performances ... A highly experienced opera conductor, Antonio Pappano knows the Verdi and Puccini repertoire well ... The Orchestra dell'Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia under him rises to the challenge with solid playing of vitality and pleasing levels of expression ... Jonas Kaufmann and Ludovic Tézier are certainly in their element with this outstanding new collection of opera duets".

"They begin with Puccini - a passionate Rodolfo and a quicktempered Marcello - and end with a chilling Otello, Tézier's Iago dripping poison into Kaufmann's ear in the Act II duet, with Antonio Pappano throwing up a terrifying barrage of sound with the Orchestra dell'Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia".

"Editor's choice: There have been some great tenor-baritone double acts down the decades ... Also spurring each other to be their very best are today's leading tenor-baritone bromance, Jonas Kaufmann and Ludovic Tézier ... Verdi composed the very best tenor-baritone duets and he dominates this new programme ... and there's a real spark when Kaufmann and Tézier sing together. Their voices fit like a glove here in the Don Carlos duet ... And there's that terrific scene ... from Ponchielli's 'La Gioconda', their two stylish voices opening up like a pair of Porsches ... Like Milnes and Domingo, they're quite close in timbre, so the bond of friendship seems especially strong ... An incredibly enjoyable album".
