"Now here's a band who made all their instruments from recycled material: the fiddles and guitars from tin cans and bicycle wire, the drums from oil tins and tree trunks ... Their approach may be rough and ready but their energy and enthusiasm are contagious".

"Sotho Sounds are a group of shepherds from the mountains who play their own hand-made instruments: four-string tin guitars, metal one-string fiddles and oil-can drums, plus rattles, and a varirty of tremendous vocal styles ... Conversational, infectious, the music hangs on wonderful rubbery riffs and a general sense of jaunty and robust good rhythm. It's their own music, drawing on South African pop, isacathamiya (echoes of the Soul Brothers, for instance) and local traditions, full of happy subtleties. Recorded in London, this is their first album, though they have played all around the world with Womad".
