The book introduces the central elements of the art of public speaking, such as the importance of analysing the speech situation, the strategic use of argument, the effect of examples, how to structure a speech, the efficient use of language, and appropriate selfpresentation and performance. The book draws its theoretical concepts from the 2,500 year old art of rhetoric, while adapting its practical examples and instructions to a contemporary context. Its purpose is to present a consistent movement from theory to practice by which the authors' insights into the art of speech are continuously converted into instructions for practical use.
