"There was never any question of who was the most prominent influence on The Black Angels' sound. The band's 2006 debut even included a song titled "The Sniper at the Gates of Heaven," a clear reference to Floyd's Piper at the Gates of Dawn. Sixteen years and five albums later, little has changed in The Black Angels' approach. That's not an issue though, because these guys (and one woman) rearrange the basic space rock, progressive and psychedelic ingredients that have consistently powered their existence into creative pieces that never feel excessive or repetitious".

"For their first album in five years, the psych-rock of Austin's The Black Angels sounds like a beast that only gets stronger and heavier over time on Wilderness of Mirrors. Sixties psych like that of fellow travelers 13th Floor Elevators may occasionally serve here as a reference point, but Wilderness stands firmly as a product of The Black Angels' time, both lyrically and sonically, after more than a year in the making".

"Texan psych-rockers The Black Angels return for album number six, a bleak and dark exploration of a world going to hell, yet one still worth fighting for".
