"The new disc gets off to a confident start with ... Konzertmusik ... But good as this performance is, and though the playing of the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra is very fine throughout, this new version doesn't quite have the imagination or the fire of Bernstein's. It's a similar story in Mathis der Maler ... Overall, this is a very decently played and conducted disc, but it's one that doesn't scale the expressive hights of its finest rivals".
