"Editor's choice - November 2021: This debut solo recording from the Trinidadian soprano is an absolute knock-out on all counts: the concept of pairing Handelian heroines with their counterparts in operas by his less familiar contemporaries throws up some real gems, and De Bique exudes a sheer joy in singing that will take your breath away. Her ornamentation (particularly in Handel's 'L'alma mia fra le tempeste') is dazzling stuff, and she evidently relishes Graun's sometimes unpredictable flights of coloratura fancy".

"An enormously promising debut from the Trinidadian soprano Jeanine De Bique ... The fast arias will strike you first: De Bique is dazzling, cartwheeling through all the notes with buoyant clarity, spurred on by Concerto Köln and its director Luca Quintavalle. But she makes beautiful work of the slow numbers too, spinning out long lines on a silvery thread of voice; the final track - an aria for the sorceress Alcina by Broschi - is mesmerising".

"In this debut recording she focuses upon the Baroque, but this very talented Trinidadian soprano definitely has many more strings to her bow, including Mozart, Weber, Gershwin, Caribbean folk music and Arvo Pärt ... Her impressive breath control so often draws us in to the continuity of the melodic lines (Handel's 'Se pietà'), and her vocal acrobatics are bright and dynamically flexible ... This is a terrific debut ably supported by some stylish instrumental playing".

"Editor's choice: The promise of De Bique's first two arias carries through the whole recital. Her commitment to these arias is complete, and she realises the individual character of each so successfully that every one feels like a discovery ... Concerto Köln under Luca Quintavalle play superbly for her ... A wonderfully made programme that turns both its musicological mining and its high-powered performances to sheer pleasure".
