"The live performance, in Prague's Rudolfinum, was recorded in September of 2017, in memory of the recently deceased Bělohlávek, and the performers understood very well what he would have wanted: deliberate, straightforward construction of this massive Wagnerian work. Hrůša and the Czech Philharmonic get the operatic quality abundantly on display in the "Tuba mirum," for instance, and the Prague Philharmonic Choir has never sounded better".

"The Decca engineers have produced a recording of exceptional resonance and warmth. The balance between choir and orchestra is well-nigh perfect, allowing us to hear their crisp diction, superb articulation and spot-on intonation. The liner notes are cursory, a minor disappointment, but thankfully translations are provided. This is now my primary recommendation for both the Requiem and Te Deum. Urgently recommended".

"Auch sonst setzen die Sopranistin Lisa Milne und Mezzosopranistin Karen Cargill in "Hostias" mit ihrer Mischung aus anrüdender Zartheit und üppiger Klangentfaltung einige Glanzlichter".

"Herreweghe takes his task seriously. The first two movements of the Requiem are for the most part superbly delicate and beautifully shaped. The choral sound is always lovely, even if at times it lacks sufficient weight".

"Das Royal Flemish Philharmonic verbindet muskulöse Kraft mit einem eher schlanken Ton und ist damit ein passender Partner für Herreweghes Collegium Vocale Gent. Auch in der auf 60 Sänger erweiterten Besetzung wahrt das Ensemble seinen warmen, geschmeidigen Sound und seine gute Intonationskultur".

"Jakub Hrůša's performance of the Requiem is darkly dramatic and ferociously committed. Every aspect of this recording leaps into life. The soloists are characterful, with heartfelt and clear delivery of the texts. The orchestra glows with textural richness, from the silky, emollient strings to the penetrating, incisive wind and brass. The mighty, slightly old-fashioned choral sound is well-balanced across the whole, massive soundscape, even if it is occasionally woolly".

"Warszawa Filharmoniske Kor og Orkester og deres tidligere chefdirigent, Antoni Wit, er en fornøjelse at være i selskab med. Samspillet og soloerne er i høj klasse ... De fire solister ... synger med ligeså stor varmblodighed og indlevelse".

"The soloists are by turn ardent or solemn in predictable English oratorio style, but not much else ... the men in particular sound stretched, with the basses significantly underpowered".

"Vurdering: Editor's choice" - "Even if there is something grittier and more heartfelt in the old Ancerl version, this new one is no less true to a remarkable setting of the ancient words".

"Herreweghe evokes the full range of this multi-layered piece. His strings and harp really shimmer at the start of the Offertorium and he achieves a chilling intensity at the opening of the 'Tuba mirum' with the trumpets' and tam-tam's eerie premonitions of Mahler. In the 'Pie Jesu' the horns and woodwind glow warmly before the soprano, alto and tenor soloist take over".

"Vurdering: Editor's choice" - "Orchestrally, this is a stunning performance. Perfectly blended woodwind are clearly focused on a wide-spread bed of strings. The recording is vividly engineered and everyone involved is on top form. A bargain".
