This bold experiment has incurred adjustments to phrasing, note-lengths and stress that purists might find hard to accept, but there can be no question of the haunted beauty of the music or the superb performance by Finley, with the Helsinki Philharmonic conducted by Shostakovich's protégé Thomas Sanderling".
