Programmet var bygget op omkring sangcyklussen: Into the fire ...

"The most substantial item in this live recording from Wigmore Hall is "Camille Claudel: Into the fire", Jake Heggie's song-cycle ... composed in 2012 for Joyce DiDonato ... The result is a well-crafted score ... The playing is excellent, while DiDonato supplies her usual command and commitment ... The rest of the programme dates from the last decades of the 19th century ... DiDonato's approach is musicianly and light of touch, entering into each item with measured tone and a focus on the text".

"DiDonato and her collaborators here ... carry the colour of voice and string quartet through the recital ... And the highest compliment I can pay all three of the arrangers is that it sounds as if those songs were conceived and swathed this way all along ... This [album] is a wonderful calling card for DiDonato. Small wonder she has become something of a muse for Heggie".
