"Aus Igor Strawinskys früher Es-Dur-Sinfonie bereits den späteren Meister herauszuhören, ist so gut wie unmöglich. Es ist Dmitrij Kitajenko sehr zu danken, dass es sie als das interpretiert, was sie ist: eine typisch russische Sinfonie der Spätromantik, mit Echos von Glasunow und Strawinskys Lehrer Rimsky-Korsakow ... Die Zagreber Philharmonie folgt ihm dabei auf adäquate Weise".

"Detail is strong in The Firebird, though muted horn and offstage trumpet can't easily be heard (brass recession can be a problem). The Rite of Spring is assured from the start, woodwind timbres gleaming, polyrhythms spectacularly clear in 'Procession of the Sage', with a few rapid surprises - 'Spring Rounds' and a fair bit of the second part; I'd certainly want to hear it again".

"Dmitry Kitaenko continues his Indian summer in the company of musicians with whom he has been ... guest conductor since 2011. On this evidence their playing is nicely turned rather than supercharged but then this programme scarcely lends itself to earth-shattering revelations ... Kitaenko ensures that it sounds pleasant enough ... The design is attractive too".

"Editor's choice: The early evolution of Stravinsky, from fledgling to 'Firebird' feels like the most natural thing in the world as one listens to this, the first in a three-volume series from Vladimir Jurowski and the London Philharmonic tracing the chronology of his musical journey. It helps, of course, that the instinct and intellect of this most inquisitive and searching of conductors makes alle the right connections, pointing up the transformation like it was an inevitabililty waiting to happen ... The key element distinguishing Jurowski's readings is 'movement'. His Firebird has fluidity and an innate sense of physicality. There is great suppleness to everything".
