"They may be among the UK's best-known folk-rockers, but there is no traditional material on this set, which bravely concentrates on new songs - and has a cover reminiscent of their 1970 album Full House. It's not entirely memorable, but it's confident and varied, with songs that range from Chris Leslie's witty Love At First Sight (girl dresses up as man to join morris band), to others that employ the gravitas of Fairport's remaining founder member, Simon Nicol".

"Obviously, with the band being at this late stage of their career, there won't be too many surprises held in Myths & Heroes. Anyone who's looking for thrills and unexpected moments are best looking elsewhere - this is basically a gang of extremely accomplished musicians in their 60s getting together, who have no need to break any new barriers. As such, it's another worthy entry in the canon for this particular gang of heroes".

Nope, this new recording has them in fine fettle, gently pushing the boundaries of the perceived Convention sound with rollicking arrangements and smart cover versions which bring in such unFairport instruments as harp and banjo ... Chris Leslie turns out to be the fulcrum around which the album turns with an increased contribution and taking much on his shoulders ... Adds weight to an already established reputation".
