"French-Canadian Marie-Nicole Lemieux stands alone as a real contralto ... Lemieux, in a not-very-showoffy manner, is a knockout ... The voice is warm and rich and is used brilliantly to show off its colors. At least half of the arias recorded here are rarities: the familiar ones: 'Che faro' from Gluck's Orfeo, 'Voi, che sapete' from Mozart's Figaro, to name two - are well done ... The others are ear-openers ... This is a great program from a great singer, and Labadie's direction of the remarkable Les Violons du Roy is no less grand".

"Les Violons Du Roy kan deres kram, og Lemieux er en æstetisk sanger. Alligevel ender albummet stift og afmålt, for selv om overfladen skinner flot, er den artige orkesterbehandling og Lemieux' indre ild hverken særlig fængende eller overbevisende".

"Her ability to extract meaning from text and notes is impressive throughout. Vivid background colour is provided by the period-instrument forces of the Quebec-based Les Violons du Roy".

"You might think that a band called Les Violons du Roy would feature period instruments: it doesn't, but the playing is lean and muscular, with plenty of light and air ... Lemieux brings warm tone and ravishing phrasing to all ... She is also splendidly defiant in Farnace's aria from Mitridate and heartfelt in the concert aria 'Io ti lascio' ... Lemieux's spine-tingling account of Clytemnestra's air in Iphigenie en Aulide is complemented by Bernard Labadie's attention to detail".
