"This is a wonderful program, both for the performances and for the intelligent overview it gives of Respighi's art generally ... In the Botticelli pictures, Neschling adopts leisurely (but never droopy) tempos that allow every detail of Respighi's imaginative scoring to register ... Il Tramonto (The Sunset), after a poem by Shelley, showcases the art of Anna Caterina Antonacci ... Her diction and way with the text is absolutely riveting, and Neschling paces the piece perfectly ... Church Windows ... is magnificently sustained and really powerfully recorded ... In sum, if you're into this wonderfully colorful and entertaining music, don't hesitate for a minute".

"Recording of the month: What a glorious work, and what a find! Anyone inured to Respighi's gaudy colours and thumping rhythms will be astonished by the musical and emotional range of this economical score. Neschling, his committed players and a radiant soloist whose bel canto experience is invaluable here, do the composer proud. The highpoint of Neschling's cycle thus far; the rarely heard Il tramonto is a real find".

"Chandos boasted two sumptuous Respighi discs with the Philharmonia and Geoffrey Simon. They appeared in 1984-85 ... Then in 1991 Yan Pascal Tortelier and the same orchestra recorded Respighi's Roman triptych ... Everything is outsize and spectacular. There is no room here for tasteful understatement; neither do we get any ... Simon ... has the measure of these rapturously profligate works, as does Tortelier ... I do not see a more attractive entry point for Respighi in his most eloquent and spendthrift style".

"John Neschling's Respighi series has gradually been developing into the finest-ever survey of the composer's orchestral output undertaken by a single conductor. This is volume five, and it is every bit as desirable as its predecessors ... If you are following Neschling's excellent series, don't hesitate to buy this latest instalment".

"Fesselnd die Interpration von John Neschling, der nicht nur den zarten Farben und feinen Stimmungen des 'Trittico' nachspürt, sondern auch dem Klangmagier Respighi in den 'Vetrate' mit Verve gerecht wird".

"One can imagine rhythmically sharper performances than the Buffalo Philharmonic's, which is why I would continue to recommend the splendid accounts of Windows and Impressions in López-Cobos's beautifully engineered Telarc issue".

"Sumptuous, meaty performances, featuring Tortelier's vigorous Roman trilogy. The Philharmonia's rich sonorities enjoy a spacious Chandos recording".

"The latest disc in John Neschling's Respighi survey focuses on works in which his post-Romantic idiom and love of early music collide and fuse. The centrepiece is Il Tramonto ... Neschling's soloist is Anna Caterina Antonacci, who brings the work the declamatory power and textual understanding ... Her dark, slightly acrid tone suggests world-weariness at the outset and vies tremendous resonance to Shelley's oblique narrative ... thrillingly played by the fine Liège orchestra ... The whole disc is an excellent addition to a very fine series".

"Vurdering: Editor's choice" - "Brilliance from Buffalo in Respighi's rich orchestration ... is treated to warm and spectacular recording".
