"Overall, the performances have a youthful naivety, but lack the refinement of the Bergen Philharmonic with Louis Lortie and Helene Mercier on Chandos, the range of pianistic color of Martha Argerich and Antonio Pappano, or the chemistry of Katia and Marielle Labéque. This album is ideally pitched at the younger market and reservations aside, would be a suitable introduction to classical music for slightly older children, to which budding musicians could relate".

"Recording of the week: The reduced forces here really do give us nature red in tooth and claw, though there's luminous beauty aplenty too - particularly from pianist Isata and cellist Sheku, whose serene Swan has all the easy poise and grace we've come to expect from the pair's solo recordings ... Morpurgo's beautifully-paced delivery of the lion's share (literally and figuratively) of his own verses has a gentle, David Attenborough-ish charm".

"Et farverigt og appetitvækkende cover, men ... man har valgt at lade et par fortællere, Michael Morpurgo og Olivia Colman udrede teksten, det vil sige fortælle om de forskellige dyr, ind imellem musikken. De gør det desværre ikke mere end hæderligt, og deres talelyst går ikke overraskende ud over det naturlige flow i musikken ... Noget tilsvarende gentager sig på cd'ens andet værk, en sammensat orkestersuite, man har kaldt "Grandpa Christmas" (Bedstefars jul) ... Det er synd, for The Kanneh-Masonsmusikerne gør det såmænd udmærket - når de ellers får lov til at spille midt i talestrømmen".

"Like all good children's literature, these lighthearted ponderings belie serious ideas ... The Kanneh-Masons are superb, applying a light touch that comes from serious musicianship. Pianist Isata jumps and hops along the keyboard in 'Kangaroo' and, joined by Konya, glories in the scalic 'Pianists'. Sheku gets his starring role in 'The Swan' and there are appearances by woodwind wonders Adam Walker and Mark Simpson (a charming cuckoo)".

"Morpurgo knows his audience too well to patronise them; his animals are wry, self-assertive, remarkably educated ... The Kanneh-Masons (plus some distinguished friends) play Saint-Saëns's jeu d'esprit with a sensitivity that might verge on the wistful if it wasn't balanced by such evident fantasy and joy. Isata, on piano, is the most striking presence ... Sheku plays 'The Swan' with eloquent poise ... It's surely destined to create just as many happy memories".
